Vote for a Small-Time Villain!
about 3 years ago – Sat, Mar 04, 2023 at 10:05:56 AM

Hi there masked vigilantes who keep the City safe from harm!

The Local Legends campaign is moving forward strong and we've almost reached the $160K stretch goal! Which is why we thought now would be a good time to have you, the backers, vote on the Small-Time Villain that will be added to the book when we reach that goal!

$160K STRETCH GOAL - FOUR SMALL-TIME VILLAINS IN LOCAL LEGENDS!

Small-Time Villains are criminal operations that are centered on one legend, who is either working alone or has help from their underlings, be them Touched by that legend or with their own Mythos.

When we hit the next stretch goal, we'll add the following Small-Time Villains to the book:

  • Puppet Show (Geppetto) -- A CALCULATING SMALL-TIME VILLAIN DRIVEN TO KILL BY FATHERLY LOVE
  • Stone-Cold Beauty (Medusa) -- A VINDICTIVE SMALL-TIME VILLAIN OF PETRIFYING GLAMOUR
  • Outlawed (Robin Hood) -- A SHARPSHOOTING SMALL-TIME VILLAIN WITH CONFLICTED ALLEGIANCES

Both Puppet Show and Stone-Cold Beauty were created for the Nights of Payne Town Kickstarter campaign and are very well-loved by fans. We're really excited to add them to Local Legends together with a new Small-Time Villain for Robin Hood, which we are currently calling Outlawed.

Browse our ideas below for the fourth Small-Time Villain (or offer your own)! Then go and vote in the Kickstarter page comments section. You have until Tuesday to vote for your favorite Small-Time Villain idea. We'll tally the votes and announce the winner then.

SMALL-TIME VILLAIN OPTIONS - CHOOSE AND VOTE IN THE MAIN PAGE COMMENTS!

  • Delilah & Samson – A violent Bonnie-and-Clyde-type couple of armed robbers who can be tricked to bring about their own demise.
  • Golyadkin Jr., from Dostoyevsky’s “The Double” – A shapeshifter and identity thief who befriends their targets, helps them at first, but eventually takes their place.
  • Koschei – A wedding chapel clerk who falls in love with and then kidnaps registrants who remind them of their estranged spouse.
  • Sinbad the Sailor – A well-loved and successful local vigilante who inadvertently brings to life the monsters that he then has to defeat.

We can't wait to see which Small-Time Villain you'll pick!

Vote for the cover of the Campus District!
about 3 years ago – Sat, Feb 25, 2023 at 02:19:27 PM

Hi there agents of the Mist,

The Local Legends Kickstarter is hurtling forward and we're unlocking more Stretch Goals and new content every day! We recently passed the $140K mark, which means all Vigilante Slipcases will now contain 8 extra district mini-map handouts. Next up: additional theme kits for lairs, bases, and hideouts across the 8 districts!

Today's Daily Unlock is all about the cover for the new District you chose, the Campus. Our last poll saw Chester Atkins, Rift of the Cheshire Cat, chosen as the Campus's playable character. As a consolation prize for the other three characters we presented, we included them in the Campus cover!

In the cover scene, Conjuration/student Damian Weiss is being mystically bound by the Gatekeeper magics of Madeline Sharp on campus grounds, to the amazement of students and LeVar Baptiste, who may be mere moments away from intervening!

Check out the compositions below and let us know in the comments: which one should on the final cover?

All of this new art you're seeing is the work of Daniel Pinal, the new artist on our team. Once we decide on the perspective -- that is, when voting ends on Monday -- Daniel will take the winning composition to completion, and it will feature as the district cover in the Local Legends book.

We can't wait to see which one you'll choose!

Vote for the Campus District Playable Character!
about 3 years ago – Sun, Feb 19, 2023 at 09:34:48 AM

Hey there legends of arcane and esoteric knowledge!

Vote for the Campus District pregen!

For today's Daily Unlock, we're very happy to announce another poll -- this time for one of the pregen playable character folios that will be included in the new Local Legends Character Folio Pack. Which one of the proposed Campus District characters below will join 'Moonwraith' (Chang'e), Somchai (Rumpelstiltskin), 'La Aguila de Plata' (Kukulkan), and Vance (Poseidon)?

Browse our ideas for the Campus pregen character at the bottom of this update or come up with your own. Then go to the Kickstarter page comment section and vote by stating your choice in the comments. We’ll count them up in 72 hours and publish the winning pregen character! If you vote more than once, we’ll just grab your latest vote.

Voting starts now!

CAMPUS PREGEN PITCHES - CHOOSE AND VOTE IN THE MAIN PAGE COMMENTS!

Chester Atkins (Rift of the Cheshire Cat) – A graduate student of Philosophy working as a Teaching Assistant, Chet, as his friends call him, moonlights as a bouncer at the Old Quarter dive bar "Duchess". He can make any part or parts of him disappear at will and can transport his body (or parts of it) to any location that he knows well but his grin is always the last to go away. Chet often philosophizes about where disappearing completely would leave his consciousness, if it would exist at all; secretly, that prospect terrifies him to death.

LeVar Baptiste (Rift of Papa Legba) – Emeritus Professor of the History of Language (Comparative Philology). Old, but somehow seems almost ageless. Commonly seen walking the campus grounds slowly with a cane whilst smoking a pipe, his Australian Shepherd always on his side. Prof. Baptiste can speak, read, and understand any language be it living, extinct, or alien, and as the intermediary between the “human” (Logos) and “spirit” (Mythos) worlds, can cut off or open up anyone’s connection with their Mythos.

Madeline Sharp (Gatekeeper Rupturer) – Assigned to watch over the forbidden knowledge in the Campus, Madeline is a Gatekeeper investigator who perhaps was not the best choice for the job. As a Rupturer, she studies and collects Mythoi that she can bind with contracts, but when it’s time to do her job as a Gatekeeper and seal them away, the temptation is sometimes too great. Her favorite tools for rooting out Rifts in the halls of Academia are the contracts for Chekhov’s Gun and Occam’s Razor.

Damian Weiss (Conjuration of a Daimon, guiding spirit of Greek Mythology) – A mysterious red-haired new student on campus, Damian is not a Rift but a Conjuration, a Mythos being emanating from the Campus’s Study Hall of Pallas Athena. While Damian seeks the individual whom he must guide to knowledge and wisdom, he is beset by the endless distractions of the City. Can he find this pupil while still protecting the Study Hall, or will he become embroiled in the mortal coil and turn into a sleeping human?

You Have Chosen: The Campus will be Local Legends' 8th District!
about 3 years ago – Thu, Feb 16, 2023 at 09:04:58 AM

Drab academics harboring ancient spirits of knowledge!

Since out last update we've unlocked the Soundtrack, so Local Legends will get its own background music! We're also well under way to unlocking the Fear The Ordinary Power Set -  so stay tuned.

And now for today's big news:

You have decreed by power of popular vote that the 8th District of Local Legends will be:

THE CAMPUS

On the hallowed grounds of learning, students congregate and speak of rumors about ancient and macabre rituals that take place behind the closed doors of faculty offices. Deities of Knowledge lead strange cults from within candle-lit caverns under the library’s marble floors – their followers create new realities by simply speaking words of power as they vie to manifest their leaders’ wishes of reaching the mythical Age of Wonder.

The Campus won with 120 votes, with Happyville as the runner-up with 85. A popular second priority, Lakeside Drive collected 69 votes, but would be at 80 as a second priority. Later in the campagin, based on how much we can raise, we hope to add a 9th District stretch goal. But for now, the decision has been made, and we are excited to explore this eldritch university district in Local Legends!

We're already working on the next vote! Stay tuned...

Until next time!

This campaign is burning rubber!
about 3 years ago – Wed, Feb 15, 2023 at 10:23:51 AM

Bravo! Neighborhood heroes and strange tales, we are making it happen!

Within the first 24 hours of the campaign, we have crossed the $110K mark and unlocked so many stretch goals; we also just revealed the stretch goals up to $160K, including a soundtrack, more accessories, and the big one - Local Legends could contain four Small-Time Villain write-ups, including one voted by you, the backers!

THE RACE FOR THE 8TH DISTRICT

One more day remains for the 8th district vote. When we counted the votes this morning, the Campus was in the lead, with Happyville close after, then Lakeside Drive. However, since then many more votes were added, which may have completely changed the outcome. And there is still a whole day to vote and change your mind, as voting ends tomorrow at 12pm EST.

DAILY UNLOCKS

Today's Daily Unlock is the theme kit for the Charlatan Street Performer. Create your character as a Tourist Trap street performer versed at picking out the gullible tourists from the crowd and relieving them of their money!

You can download or discover every day's Daily Unlock content by visiting the page, right under the Stretch Goals.

CHINATOWN COVER

We hardly had the time to share some of the new art we have for the Chinatown cover, by the gifted Daniel Pinal. It depicts the vigilante "Moonwraith" AKA Tracy Chang (Rift of Chang'e, the Chinese Moon Goddess), and her rabbit, dodging two massive tiger spirits on the streets of her district. Check it out and enjoy!

Until the next update, don't fall prey to the Mist!

-Amit and the team

Incidentally, the Chinese Year of the Rabbit just started, leaving behind the Year of the Tiger. Coincidence? We think not.
