Are you ready for the night when the Mist is pulled back and Mythoi freely roam the City? It's time for another update on LocalLegends!
Development Updates
Writing for Local Legends is 95% completed; there are only two remaining cases still being finished. To prevent significant delays due to work on :Otherscape, we are building a separate team that will edit and layout Local Legends throughout November. If all goes well, we should have a finished PDF book around mid-December, which would only be up to 2 weeks of delay. We will then assess the print stage, but there is a good chance Local Legends will be printed alongside :Otherscape and will be released around March-April 2023. We're making utmost effort not to allow LocalLegends to delay significantly. Stay tuned for more updates on all that.

- We're getting ready for our next Kickstarter next year, but we won't launch it before this KS is released in PDF and has gone to print. It's a fantasy RPG titled Legend in the Mist, and at this point we're only launching the preview page to begin collecting followers.

Writing Highlights, Alchemy VTT, and QUEERZ! RPG

Hello there detectives and devils,
It's time for an update on how the Local Legends project is coming along!
WRITING IS IN ITS FINAL WEEKS
Our incredibly talented writing team has been working on new districts and cases, as well as expanding the existing ones. So far, about half of the work has been drafted and submitted; all writing drafts should wrap up by the second week of October. Here are some highlights:
Maddie Disedare is delving into Happyville, explaining the reason for the Gatekeeper interest in the area: could somethign be slumbering there that threatens the very Mist itself? (Shhhh.) Cue strong Roswell UFO cover-up vibes and overall mid-century suburban flavor, though the X-Files is also an inspiration.
Toni Pi is fleshing out Moon Wraith’s background for his China Town district using the new Tradition themebook he’s working on. She’s taking on an Acrobatic Heritage which explains and expands her agile rooftop crime fighting skills. Chinatown will also include some developments in the story of the Chow family (of Lily Chow and Chairman Chow renown).
In La Colonia de Sombras, Mark Diaz Truman is turning La Águila’s lover Erica Garza into the Rift of the Aztec war god Huītzilōpōchtli, fighting on the streets as La Colibrí (the Hummingbird), making their love affair all the more interesting!
I (Kelly Black) am working on Leviathan’s Sorrow, which is a pulp action case set in the Sunken City. I’m building in Indiana Jones style traps and pacing, but I’m also really enjoying the somber, fatalistic tone of our villains for this case–the Church of the Cleansing Waters.
Alongside CoM veterans, writers who are new to the official City, such as Superdillin and Maddie Disedare, have shown us unique takes that are bound to enrich Local Legends in unexpected ways. Also, check out Maddie's content on the Garage, our 3rd party publishing site on DriveThruRPG. It's great to see more and more writers who have shown us their writing and developing chops on the Garage move on to work on the official books!
Overall, the writing phase of Local Legends is on track. We are doing everything to ensure the editorial and layout phases will meet the estimated digital release date by end of November 2023, followed by the print release. We will continue to update as work continues.
SOON: CITY OF MIST ENHANCED EDITION ON ALCHEMY RPG
Alchemy RPG are working on two major developments for City of Mist on their platform.
First, they are in the final stages of "ingesting" or transferring all existing City of Mist content into the Alchemy RPG Universe features, which will allow you to read and browse the books on the Alchemy platform. Once this is complete, we will provide everyone who purchased City of Mist on a Kickstarter or on our website with a code to access those books on Alchemty RPG.
Even more exciting, Alchemy are working on an Enhanced edition for City of Mist, meaning CoM will have its own unique backgrounds, styling, and overlays on Alchemy, and its own suite of dynamic music, allowing the MC to mix different levels of investigation, drama, and action, as well as many other features. Alchemy will also offer custom support for playing CoM on their VTT (and there are whispers of a character creator, but it's too soon to see if that will be included). The Enhanced edition for CoM should be live on Alchemy RPG by the end of the year.

This mixer, included as part of the Enhanced support for City of Mist on Alchemy RPG, allows the MC to combine any mixture of investigation, drama, and action soundtracks that blend seamlessly. Plus, there is ambient rain that you can mix separately. Mind blown.
QUEERZ RPG IS NOW AVAILABLE IN PDF
QUEERZ! TTRPG is our super sentai game based on the City of Mist RPG system and the amazing manga by Japanese queer artist ISA. Whether they are LGBTQ+, otaku, or simply individuals who dance to a different drum, the Queerz fight to free humanity from the mind-controlling grip of Ignorance and restore peace and fun to their beloved city, all while dealing with their own personal drama.
If you love sentai shows like Power Rangers or Sailor Moon, check out the game on DriveThruRPG. We have released the Basic Set (similar to the City of Mist Starter Box), Creator Guide (for character and villain creation), and Adventure Anthology, as well as extra characters and digital accessories. The fun part is, this game uses the same system of City of Mist, just with different moves (Be Vulnerable, Care, Get A Clue, Resist, Slay, Strike a Pose, and Talk it Out)

Defiant RPG + Writing Has Begun!

Hi there royalty of gods and monsters,
This is a quick update to tell you about the just-launched Definat RPG (below) and to keep you in the loop about Local Legends progress. With the fantastic writing team assembled, the writing phase of the project has now begun and is expected to take ~2 months (ideally) including additional pitching and the writing of districts, expansions, and cases. Developer Kelly Black is running the show. We will also start reaching out to CREATOR tier backers for your NPC ideas - start thinking about which district you want your character to be in, and what their Mythos and Logos are. More updates as we progress!
Our friends at Games Machinery are Kickstarting two expansions for their gorgeous Defiant RPG. The game is a close cousin of City of Mist, and could be a great resource if you want to explore the darker side of the City royalty. Some of the mechanics were even inspired by City of Mist!
If you haven't had the pleasure, Defiant RPG is an urban fantasy game about modern-day supernatural aristocrats governing over a city. Players take on the roles of angelic, demonic, divine, or draconic royals, with their own courts, holdings, spouses, etc. It has been nominated for the Origins Awards this year for its sheer beauty and style.
On this Kickstarter, you can get the core book, plus two new expansions:

Here is a quick update to keep you in the loop:
As planned, the development of Local Legends will begin in full force in July. The first phase will be writing, and as our development leadership team is gradually freeing up from other projects (QUEERZ!, :Otherscape), we will be starting to orchestrate the composing of dark and broody new districts and Dangers for the City. Stay tuned for more updates on that. Backers of the Creator tier can also start expecting kickoff emails around the middle of next month.
Next week, we will be doing a roundup of all remaining stragglers in terms of early shipments of existing CoM items and digital files. If you completed your survey when we first sent it, this shouldn't affect you, as all early shipments and files have already been sent out. But if you pledged late and are waiting to get your stuff, it's going to happen next week.
Marcin Sobon, Amit Moshe, and Mariusz Szulc -- Art Journey of City of Mist
I (Amit) finally got to meet in person City of Mist lead artist, Marcin Sobon, and lead cartographer, Mariusz Szulc, after knowing them 10 and 7 years respectively. This epic (re?)union happened during Pyrkon, a Polish RPG convention I was invited to as a guest. I gave a couple of solo talks on Cinematic RPGs there and then the three of us gave a talk about The Art Journey of City of Mist. All talks were recorded and we will release them soon as videos. But it was hard to get everything in, so we were thinking about creating a City of Mist art book sometime in the future. What do you think about this idea? Let us know in the comments.
